Large Mosque Extension

Project History: Detailed feasibility study appraising existing planning consent, resulting with a re-design and new planning submission to meet the community needs. Following a full working drawings and tender package, a temporary site office was established to successfully execute the project within budget.

The site office enabled daily contact with the main contractor and sub-contractors to ensure that the design standards as well as budgets were rigorously maintained, whilst providing extensive invaluable site and project management experience.

Design Generators: The proposal sought to blend the architectural style of the existing whilst simultaneously introducing design features such as:

    • Stone window surrounds and brick banding, inspired by the context
    • Bespoke blue and white stone arches to tie into the windows but inspired by the Prophets Mosque in Medina.
    • Bespoke square Cufic design calligraphy panels in hardwood external doors
    • Rear brick stair tower, dome and high level arched windows

Blackstone Architects extensive theological knowledge and architectural experience was coupled to provide the client a building that responds both to the existing, national and functional context.
